The project is a lively space by nature. Circus acts, carnival games, children of all ages; the outdated and dark concept begged for vibrant colors, strong focal points, whimsy and imagination. The design intent was to enrich the space with color, a fresh layout, a unique performance stage, and key focal points to stir and delight the crowd.
The 45′ ceilings were repaired, outdated and unusable stage equipment was removed and the tall, sloping walls were enhanced with 20’ pennants to draw the eye up. Custom wallcovering murals touch on the carnival eras of the past with a fresh graphic approach. A 40′ semi-circular stage was placed near the center of the arena to draw crowds from all directions.
Color touches every surface. The materials, lights, sounds, and crowd create joyful harmony in the atmosphere. While budget was a driving factor, through thoughtful use of materials and careful attention to detail, the space was refreshed without costly structural impact. Instead, the owner’s goals were met through selective use of custom wall coverings, a fresh paint palette, new flooring, an amazing center stage, and a complete reconstruction of the theatrical lighting and AV systems.

Inspired by the surrounding mountains, alpine lakes, and local natural resources, The Spa offers an unrivaled relaxation experience. Every detail of The Spa is designed to soothe the soul and delight the senses. What was previously a small-scale spa and fitness area, transformed into a 21,000 square foot treatment area, complete with 12 treatment rooms, three relaxation lounges, a salt inhalation chamber, two private hospitality suites, seven hydrotherapy soaking tubs, two steam rooms and saunas, a full-service salon, and fitness center.
Guests are welcomed onto The Spa floor with calm music, relaxing scents, lush materials and gentle lighting. Nature flows through the space in a beautiful blend of warm, earthy colors and materials; including stone, wood, metal, and greenery. Melting between the interior and exterior spaces, a rejuvenating swimming pool with an 8,000 square foot deck area, offers guest an oasis of calm.
Of high priority was to create dynamic features along the window walls to invite natural light into the space without interrupting the spa tranquility. To further expand the sense of space, existing ceiling limitations were addressed by providing design elements that would create the feel of height, including raised soffits and linear lighting sources. Meandering corridors offer privacy and create a gentle flow through the treatment and lounge spaces.

The Hard Rock Lake Tahoe incorporates rock and roll branding, a bit of ranching history, and the gorgeous backdrop of Lake Tahoe and Heavenly Ski Resort, to create a premier destination for locals and tourists. The full renovation and re-branding of the interior produced spaces that hold architectural surprises, touches of nature, and blasts of color. An essential remodel of the two-story bar and restaurant, The Firebreak, opens the South end of the property up to an outdoor plaza, offering views of Heavenly Ski Resort and an iconic Hard Rock guitar. The casino floor was imparted with life, color, texture. A simple, clean Oyster Bar open to the casino floor, sitting next to an upscale, yet earthy Steakhouse. The hotel registration and guest rooms are crisp and contemporary. Throughout the 530,000 SF property each venue takes a unique approach to blending the Hard Rock aesthetic with the Lake Tahoe vibe.

Marriott’s Timber Lodge, located in scenic South Lake Tahoe, is a stunning timeshare resort. 114 timeshare condominiums and several outstanding resort amenities were added to the Lodge, for a total of 195,000 sf. The resort is nestled at the base of Heavenly Ski Resort and offers breathtaking views of the mountains and the wilderness surrounding Lake Tahoe.
Tucked into the central courtyard is a refreshing pool area, complete with hot tubs, water pad for kids, and several fire pit areas and BBQs to create a true homeaway-from-home experience. The exterior elements enhance the surroundings and the proximity to Heavenly Village provides Timber Lodge a unique identity as one of Lake Tahoe’s most appealing mountain resort destinations.

Nestled in the dramatic mountain landscape of Black Hawk, Colorado, the expansive renovation and addition for the Monarch Casino & Resort boasts a new 22-story, 507 room hotel, enlarged gaming space, and an overall exterior and interior remodel. The main intent of the design was to ensure the property stood out amongst the other casino resort properties in Black Hawk, while still adhering to the planning requirements to reflect the City’s historical image. The pool and spa were located at the twenty third floor to take advantage of the panoramic views of the surrounding Colorado landscape. Opulent materials like limestone and granite were incorporated at the pedestrian level, while balancing less costly plaster finishes at the higher levels of the tower. Details were integrated into windows and the plaster finish at the tower, to maintain the high-end character the owner envisioned. Monarch Casino & Resort will be an elegant and timeless addition to the landscape.

Tahoe Seasons Resort is a mountain top retreat located near Heavenly Mountain Resort in Lake Tahoe. Nestled among the trees, guests are immediately welcomed by the remodeled lobby, serving as a focal point for the resort and setting the tone for visitors of the Tahoe experience. OneStudio transformed this room by adding a large central fireplace and inviting seating areas that are quaint enough to feel like your own mountain living room.
The Hotel Guestroom renovation involved a dramatic reconfiguration to the typical guestroom layout to allow guests to close off the master bedroom from the rest of the suite and add a coffee bar counter and seating area. From the private bedroom, the large windows showcase the spectacular mountain view, while the fireplace provides romance and comfort.

From modest beginnings, this gaming property has grown into a high quality gaming establishment, complete with exciting games, exceptional dining, and entertainment venues, all in an elegant and spacious setting. OneStudio D+A, formerly MBA Architecture + Interior Design, completed a hotel addition, as well as a 50,000 square foot Events Center and Theater expansion of the Silver Reef Hotel Casino & Spa.
The hotel addition added 101 rooms and suites, 3,000 square feet of meeting space, a large prefunction area, a combined coffee lounge and lobby bar, and new laundry facilities. Guestrooms were enhanced with luxurious bathrooms including full walk-in showers and body sprays. The presidential suite is located at the top floor to maximize views and the hospitality suite is located on the ground floor to include a large outdoor patio. Each elevator lobby displays local Native American art and artifacts.
