The Reno Police Department successfully transitioned from its outdated 1947 station at 455 E. Second St. to a new, state-of-the-art facility located at 911 Kuenzli St., the former Reno Gazette-Journal building. This completed project encompasses approximately 144,500 square feet.
Originally built in 1980, the RGJ building underwent significant structural enhancements, including the addition of 300 tons of steel and 3,000 cubic yards of concrete, to meet the stringent requirements of a Category 4 essential facility, ensuring its operational continuity during natural disasters. This adaptive reuse approach minimized environmental impact while preserving the building’s historical integrity, effectively doubling the available space for the police department. The completed design features advanced technology infrastructure, private interview rooms, and flexible areas that accommodate the department’s growth and the needs of the community.
