OneStudio D+A worked closely with the Renown Health Foundation to re-imagine hospice care, and create a facility to provide comfort to both the patient and the patient’s loved ones.

The driving force for the Hospice House design is a strong connection to nature and the outdoors. All of the resident rooms have access to private patios. Resident rooms, family common spaces, a café, and a small chapel are arranged around a central courtyard, providing an abundance of natural light and garden views in every direction. The arrangement also minimizes the distance the caregivers need to move between each resident room and allows the facility to achieve a lean model ratio between caregivers and patients.

The interior design includes wood floors, small community kitchens, shared dining spaces and an eclectic mix of furniture to give the spaces a feeling of warmth and an elevated residential atmosphere. The combination of public and private spaces creates opportunities for emotional support, group activities, meaningful and supportive conversations, and quiet reflection.
