Moana Aquatics
The Moana Aquatic Center was designed to offer a unique fitness, swimming, and community experience. The project goal was to create an elegant mixed use aquatic and fitness facility, completely new in concept a scope to the area.
We concentrated heavily on the experience of arriving to the site and the impression of each visitor or participant as they moved throughout the building. Large expanses of glass around the perimeter and within the roof maintained a connection to the outside. The running track was elevated above the main pool to connect activities visually, and spectators were offered a double-sided view into the two pool areas. Unique seating cubbies, or “Fishbowls”, were provided for small gatherings, snacks, studying, or rest. The property also incorporated a fitness area and outdoor running path to promote diversity in exercise.
The Moana Aquatic Center would be a one-of-a-kind facility for Reno. Overall, it was important to the design and success of the facility that the building not just be functional, but offered people new and interesting experiences.
